As the white capped trees become the view from my bus, the 8 hour ride seems to fly by. The beauty that presides in the world is astounding and Interlaken, Switzerland exceeded all of my expectations. A small town located between two lakes and surrounded by the Swiss Alps is purely magical in its nature. Waking up to the fresh, crisp air with good people by my side made me realize that life is short and we must make the most of it. From the all you can eat cheese fondue, to the cheap beer, but expensive food, the beautiful lakes and snow filled mountains, this trip was one for the books.
As cheesy as the acronym YOLO may seem, it perfectly describes the extreme sports in Interlaken. The sport of my choice, paragliding, was an experience of a lifetime and something I will remember forever. I may not have mentioned this to my parents until after the fact (to help them from worrying) but, running off a mountain overlooking the Swiss Alps and feeling what it feels like to fly made me feel free as a bird and I recommend it to anyone who chooses to try.
The teal blue lakes, accompanied by snow covered mountains and a peaceful serenity brings me pure joy. I could stand at the edge of that lake all day and watch the glassy surface reflect off the sun. Pictures cannot capture the beauty that arises from the lake. You feel a sense of freedom and happiness when surrounded by it.
I'm not sure if I could live in a place like Interlaken considering I ate bread and cheese the whole weekend and washed it down with cold beer, but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Might just need to walk a few extra miles this week :) The next time you want to embark on an adventure to a place so unknown, I would suggest you put Interlaken on your list.
Pure bliss and serenity
